Photomontage Project

Photomontage Project. . .

This name is "Okamoto Taro"

He was the greatest artist in Japan.
That tower is one of this famous art.
And I used his famous picture for background.
I used almost 40 filters for this photomontage.

This name is "so with President Lincoln"

I used Lincoln statue picture which I took when I visited for base. then I put pictures of myself which look like I'm sitting with Lincoln.

This name is "YUI"

She is one of my favorite artists. She is singer.
She writes really good songs, and I love them.
I put picture of guitar which I make filtered because she uses guitar when she sings.
The letters on that guitar are the name of songs which she made.

iPhrase

iPhrase. . .

"iHug"

... because i like hugs :)

*Why did you choose these poses?
Because I like to hug :) I think hugs make us happy.  So I collected some poses. That green one, that picture is actually that two of my friends lied down on the floor and hug each other. Blue one, there are two of my friends and me, it looks like sandwich, I like it, too. Red one, I see often. I was my host sister.

*Why did you highlight the details that you did?
Because arms is the point for hugs. And it is interesting how we hold. And clothes, I want to show how close each other when we do hugs.

*Any other little tidbits about the process?
I put two or three layers for showing arms and clothes.  Then as I put, colors of hands/arms are more clear than color of clothes. Backgrounds of original photograph were not all blank, so it was hard to select object every time.

Filtered Photo & Self Critique

My favorite one. . .

"Water Paper"

#What do you think is most successful about this piece?
I think I could succeeded to make that photo so sweet and shiny by filter. I think that soft texture of Water paper is matching with that photo's emotion.

#What do you wish you could change?
I wish I could change that back ground. I think it needed more dark shadow. So I think it would have more deep images, not just bright and light.

#What was the most enjoyable part of this project for you?
I loved them all. It was hard to choose best filter for one photograph. It took a lot of time to try, compare, change, and discuss. Each filter has different character, so sometimes it'll have another meanings compare with original. When I discovered from that, I was so excited. To take that photograph was just one second, and it has just only one face. However we can give it another face through using filter.

#Did you find anything about this process challenging?
I challenged to use filter more than one for other filtered pictures. Some kind of filter is really good with other one, but sometimes not. When I was doing that, i felt like I was doing some kind of lab. I enjoyed it. I think I might be able to fine for another filter for that one photograph above, which that point I wanted to fix them. I'll try another time then.

#Do you think you will use these filters in the future for anything?
Off course!! I will. It was so fun to do it. And it was so simple to use.

#How do you feel about your digital art skills so far?
I feel it's OK about my digital art skills. Digital art is really different part of art, and it was first time for me. So I think I need more practicing and trying other technique. Apparently I need to practice to take nice photograph, too. Even I have Photoshop, if the original one is not good, I never be able to make greater one, that's I think. I want to make best ones which leave impression on someone.

Pop Art Critique

name: Kyle

Back ground doesn't have bright color, so I could see bright colored dogs clearly.  And I could compared colors next each other.  Similar colors didn't be nest really, it made it good.  I think you can put other color, like orange or brown, instead of white one. I really like this Pop Art :)

Movie Question

Movie Question National Geographic "The Photographer"

1) National Geographic's pioneer photographer Gilbert H Grosvenor maintained that “The mind must see before it can believe.” Do you think this is true? Explain.

I think it is true. I think maybe it's like when we believe there are some ghost we cannot believe without seeing them. Or like love and cherish. We can say how much do they love someone with word. but it might be not true, unfortunately. However when they hug them kiss them or seeing each other face and expression, we can know and tell them with sure. I think all about these base make sense.

2) The photographers come across many obstacles, problems, and dilemmas while out on photo shoots. List 5 that stood out to you.

They are, where you gonna go, what you gonna photograph, who you wanna see, what you wanna see how you gonna tell that story

3) Nick Nichols specializes in wildlife photography. What happened with the elephants on his trip to the Rainforest? How do you think you would have reacted in that situation?

It was dangerous, elephants run straight to the photographers. If I am on that situation, I am surprised and scared, then actually I cannot move from there even I have to run!! I think I cannot take a picture when I face that dangerous situation.

4) What do the National Geographic photographers tell you makes a great photo? (Tell me 2 things)

Clear, sharp, strong centrist, good composition, packaged the world.

5) National Geographic gives some good pointers on Portraits. What did you take away from this film about photos of the human face?

The picture was about surgery. These so many thread with body scared me. I thought about the life.

6) Photographers often shoot hundreds of photos and only pick one or two from the group. Did you agree with the explanations of why certain pictures get chosen for the cover? Which cover was your favorite?

Nice photo is only one or two in hundred is like we have one second or moment which impresses us in whole our life, so it's really valuable and rare. I like that picture with just one eye one. Because when I saw it I couldn't say anything but I though what it's seeing or watching over through. I felt how beautiful eye is and it's looking at me, so it kind of scares me and I feel like I cannot avoid it.

7) David Doubilet photographs underwater. He comments on making the reader “feel the ocean.” How do you think YOU can make viewers FEEL your subjects when you take your photos?

I think I can make viewers feel. . .When I touch, smell, hear and see object. When I share experience with that object. Then I cannot say anything with any words for them.

8) National Geographic's mission is to provide its readers “with a window on the world.”
It is introducing land and people we never visited. Sometime these photos were taken where photographer worked on outside with unwelcome. I think photographers make the windows for us, so we should look at outside of our world. And then see and find something. I think these might be something valuable to you someday.

9)What are your thoughts on the Peruvian sheep faming boy? The photographer felt that his “intrusion” had made an actual difference. How can you make a difference with your own photos?

I felt how much sheep were important for him. I learned back ground is important as much as object is. Background is not just back or decoration for object. It tells us what is object.

10) Did this film inspire you in any way for your own photography? We're going to explore photography more in depth next week, what lessons will you retain from this film?

I learned what makes photos, what we can feel through photograph...and I'm happy I could meet these nice photo which let impresses me...
